Many cities such as Santiago and Cape Town face the effects of floods and droughts. The suffering cities must resort to expensive and high energy measures to ensure a sufficient water supply.
The price of residential water continues to increase, about 3.3% for a family of four, but a slower increase than we have seen in years. There is a more drastic rise in California’s water rates at about 7% due to environmental causes like the five year drought and attempting to reverse water pollution. There has been a decrease in the consumption of water which has slowed the rise in water rates, but as a result utility companies are adding a fixed rate on water bills.
