CO-FOUNDER, CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE LEAD
Mathew Cusack is an experienced startup and growth company executive. Matt is active in Mobius Labs leadership and is passionate about building a sustainable business model to help improve water resources for a billion people. He was a co-founder or an executive in several other energy and utility market startups. He has been fortunate to experience successful exits, an IPO with Plug Power and M&A with XOS. He has extensive experience in market and development, growth and coopetition strategy, operations, finance and team building. He has been teaching as an adjunct for 25 years at RPI, HVCC and Siena for Engineering, Mathematics, Entrepreneurship and Innovation. In addition, he has governance experience in financial institutions and multiple startup companies.
CO-FOUNDER, HARDWARE LEAD
BS-Electrical Engineering. He was an NSF I-Sites Participant most recently. Mr. Lipowitz is responsible for overall hardware technology development of the project. He has over two-decades of experience in leading electronics and hardware development. He has worked with the original founder, Mr.Cusack, in several projects over the last ten years and has joined Mobius full-time in May 2017.
CO-FOUNDER, SOFTWARE LEAD
BS Computer Science, MS-Technology Commercialization. In the past, Mr. Appel has worked on projects that used AI techniques, specifically Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning. He is instrumental in developing the database and data structure, resolving software issues from the A-D information on the circuit board all the way through the data analysis performed on the AWS servers. He left his previous company to work on Mobius full-time in June 2017.

Micheal C. Barnas
M&A, LEGAL AND CONTRACTS
Michael Barnas is a seasoned commercial lawyer, with experience both as in-house counsel and in law firm practice spanning three decades and a wide range of challenging projects. Mr. Barnas is currently in solo practice in Albany, New York, focusing on commercial contracts, business formation and startups. From 2013 until 2016, Mr. Barnas served as counsel to a prominent law firm in Albany, New York, practicing in its energy, construction and commercial transactions practice groups and advising clients regarding matters before the New York State Public Service Commission. Until November 2012, Mr. Barnas was Senior Counsel for Renewables within GE’s Power & Water business unit. His responsibilities included advising GE’s global development team, which focused on early-stage project development in the renewable energy space.
IP AND STRATEGY
Michael Hoffman is a patent attorney with over 20 years of experience in patent prosecution, with a focus on computer related inventions. Michael’s practice spans a broad array of technologies including computer system architecture, software, cloud-based systems, computer networks, cognitive learning, data storage, business methods, social media, user experience, signal processing, electrical circuits, and semiconductor processing.
Michael’s clients include Fortune 500 clients, universities, midsize clients, and startups. In addition to having filed and prosecuted hundreds of patent applications, Michael’s practice also includes counseling clients in trademark matters, licensing, infringement opinions, and intellectual property strategies.
Mr. McKenna has supported many startups for over 30 years advising companies in taxes, business consulting, strategic business planning as well as structuring and documenting corporations and limited liability companies.
Mr. McKenna is a certified public accountant for several decades and is a certified valuation analyst for preparation of businesses and real estate. In addition Mr. McKenna is a member of the Capital Region Chamber of Commerce helping to support the local community
KATHALEEN A. HANLON
STARTUP AND GROWTH HR
Kathy is a Senior Human Resources Professional with more than 25 years of experience in human resources, including Employee Relations, Policies and Procedures, Employee Handbooks and Performance Management. Throughout her career, Kathy has worked with both small and large businesses and held senior level human resource positions in a variety of industries, such as Manufacturing, Financial Services, Residential & Commercial Real Estate and Mortgage Banking.
Kathy also holds a Paralegal Certification in Employee Benefits and a Brokers’ License in both New York and Vermont for Life, Accident and Health Insurance, which provides her with an in-depth understanding of all types of employee benefits programs. She has also worked with the Predictive Index (PI) system for recruiting, leadership development, team building and organizational culture change, and is a certified Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) administrator.
NPD, COMMERCIAL SALES LEADER
Frank Scovello is an accomplished business professional with over 40 years of experience in the energy industry. Frank has exceptionally broad-based experience on a wide range of technologies ranging from large-scale nuclear power generators to small-scale renewable power technologies such as residential solar, micro wind and energy storage. During his career, Frank held numerous business development roles involving global project development, research & development, new technology introduction, and early-stage product marketing and commercialization. Frank has worked with several startup companies, providing support and guidance on technology readiness and early-stage product introduction strategies. Frank also worked with several venture capital groups providing them with assessments on new technologies and performance requirements of those technologies to meet market requirements.
Firmin Alexander is the go-to marketing person for numerous clients in the capital region.
In addition to marketing consulting services, he is the Marketing Specialist at Troy Web Consulting, a custom software development company focus on delivering Kick-ass software to their clients.
Firmin is a self-taught marketer with a degree in computer science which drives data-driven marketing efforts that improve as time goes by. Firmin in now working towards building his own Marketing Firm while continuing to improve his skills as a marketer.
SERIAL ENTREPRENEUR, SALES
Steve Lobel joined Anchor Agency, Inc. as Director of Sales and Marketing in January of 1997, and in 2006 he was promoted to Vice President. He left his position, as assistant Vice President for Alumni Affairs at the University at Albany to assume this opportunity in one of Albany’s most respected insurance and financial planning firms. In 2016 Anchor was acquired by Pioneer Bank. Lobel continues as Vice President of the insurance division.
As a serial entrepreneur Steve Lobel spent his formative years starting and growing several business ventures. For the last 20 years he has been Vice President at Anchor Agency, Inc., a full service independent insurance agency in Albany, NY. Since the early days of the internet, Steve has specialized in insurance products and services that address the complex and rapidly changing risks associated with E-commerce and Information Technology. He has developed a holistic suite of services designed to enable both start-up and mature businesses to manage risk and function effectively in the electronic age. His specialties include: Cyber Liability, Errors & Omissions, Professional Liability, Alternative Energy, and other niche markets. He has attained the professional designation CIC (Certified Insurance Counselor). In 2014 Lobel was appointed as a Fellow of the National Cyber Security Institute of Excelsior College.
